www.festivalensemble.org stands for Festivalensemble Stuttgart – an annual project organised by the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart and sponsored exclusively by E.ON AG. The ensemble was founded in 2001 by Helmuth Rilling and has rapidly developed into one of Europe´s leading ensembles of its kind. A two week rehearsal period by Lake Constance in southern Germany is followed by two weeks of performing at the European Music Festival Stuttgart and at other prestigious music festivals within Germany and Europe. After Britten's "War Requiem" with more than 250 musicians on stage we come back to Bach once again: St. Matthew's Passion. This will be supplemented on the other side by F. Schubert's highly challenging Symphony No. 7 ("Unfinished") for the orchestra and his wonderful Mass in A-flat major. Schubert's "Gesang der Geister über den Wassern" (mp3) is an impressive and virtuosic piece for male voices and lower strings. Moreover, choir singers and instrumentalists will have the opportunity to present themselves within smaller ensembles with a cappella music and different instrumental works.
